Donald L. Burke, Sr.
Donald L. Burke, Sr., 84, of Lowell passed away on Wednesday morning, October 23, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was born September 9, 1929, at Rainbow to Joseph and Vesta Burke. He worked in construction, farming and auto mechanics. He loved to play country music.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Burke, whom he married on December 22, 1949.
Don is survived by 2 sons, Donald L. (Lucy) Burke, Jr. and Tommy (Gretchen) Burke both of Lowell; 5 grandchildren: Donald (Shawna) Burke III of Waterford, Brandy of Lowell, Ashtyn of Canal Winchester, Shelby and Sydra of Lowell; 4 great grandchildren: Josie and Jacob of Waterford, Jamaria of Lowell and Emersyn Sue due in December. He is also survived by 1 brother, Robert, of Lowell, 4 sisters: Ethel Rush, Eloise White, Betty Stewart and Shirley Norris.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 brothers: Joseph and McKinely; 3 sisters: Dorothy Payton, Lillian Burke, Mary Hughes and great grandson John George Burke.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Healthcare Plus and Hospice for the compassionate care they gave Don.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday (Oct. 26) at 10:30 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial following in Rainbow Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday after 2:00pm with family present from 2-4 & 6-8. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.lankfordfh.com.
