Dorothy “Dot” Wittekind

Dorothy (Dot) Wittekind, “Mammy”, went home to be with the Lord and her beloved husband on Wednesday, November 12th, 2014 at home.  She was born in Lowell, OH on December 23rd, 1933 to Ivy and Edna West.  She was married to the love of her life Dwight, who preceded her in death in 2009.  They were married June 24th, 1950 and shared a wonderful 59 years together.

 Dorothy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt who will be forever missed by everyone who knew her.  She was a homemaker who loved to cook big meals for her family and friends.  Her favorite time of the year was the holiday season and she loved gift giving, decorating, and entertaining.  Dorothy had the most generous heart and adored her grandchildren and great-children.  She also enjoyed listening to gospel and country music and traveling to Pigeon Forge, TN.
 
Dorothy was a loving mother to her daughter Eve Szabo (Ted) of Marietta, OH and son Mark Wittekind (Beth) of Nashville, TN.  Her husband Dwight, son Brett, parents Ivy and Edna West, and sisters Eva West and Cricket Hendershot preceded her in death.  She was a beloved “Mammy” to her grandchildren Stephanie Neonakis (Nick) of Coral Gables, Fl, Jennifer Szabo (Donnie) of Lakewood, OH, Adam Wittekind (Carrie) of Nashville, TN, Julie Cunningham (Chris) of Nashville, TN, and Russ Wittekind (Brandy) of Olathe, KS.  She had a special place in her heart for great-granddaughter Megan Neonakis of Coral Gables, FL.  Other great-grandchildren include Max and Alex Neonakis of Coral Gables, FL, Maury, Mada, and Drew Wittekind of Nashville, TN, Colton and Wyatt Wittekind of Olathe, KS, and Ellie Cunningham of Nashville, TN.  Surviving siblings are Cletus West (Thelma) of Marietta, OH, Belva Strickland of Oak Grove, OH, Fran Carver (Kenny) of Marietta, OH, and Ron West (Cheryl) of Wilmington, NC. Her sister-in-law, Karen Strahler, was like a daughter to her and a sister to Eve and Mark.  Many nieces and nephews also survive her.
 
A memorial service will held at 2:00pm Sunday, November 16th, 2014 at McClure-Schaefer-Lankford Funeral Home in Marietta, OH with Pastor Mike Minear.  Online condolences can be made at www.lankfordfh.com.  The family asks you consider making a donation in Dorothy’s name to the Gospel Mission, 309 Lancaster St, Marietta, OH, 740-350-4417.
