Edna Mae Schenkel
Edna Mae Schenkel, 88, of Lower Salem, passed away at 2:30 pm at her home on Friday, January 4, 2013. She was born on April 25, 1924, at Bonn to I. O. “Bob” and Virginia Grogan Carpenter. She was a homemaker and a graduate of Salem Liberty High School, Class of 1943. Edna enjoyed watching birds, working puzzles and loved her family.
On June 5, 1943, she married Cecil Schenkel who preceded her in death on June 15, 2009.
Edna is survived by her daughter Shirley Hockenberry of Whipple; 3 grandchildren: Robert (Ann) Hockenberry of Mineral Wells, WV, Brenda (Dan) Waterman of Lower Salem and Rick (Christy) Hockenberry of Lowell; 5 grandchildren: James Brown, Nicholas (Michelle) Brown, Daniel Waterman, Anna (Wayne) Guckert, Aaron Hockenberry; 2 step grandchildren, Jaymie (Chad) Fox and Heather Metz; and great, great newborn grandson, Rodney Guckert; 2 step great, great grandchildren, Blake and Corey Fox. She is also survived by her sister, Erma Carpenter; 2 sisters-in-law, Betty L. Schenkel and Ruth Biehl and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law Ronald Hockenberry and 4 siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (Jan. 9) at 1:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral home with Roger Rush officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6:00pm on Monday with family present from 6-8 and on Tuesday all day with family present 2-4 & 6-8.
