Elia Rose Marchetti
Elia Rose Marchetti, 96, passed away October 26,2012 at the Arbors in Marietta. She was born February 25, 1916 in New Britian, Connecticut, daughter of Ernest and Mary Deflaviis. On May 25, 1946 she married Eugene L. Marchetti, Jr. who preceded her in death on August 22, 2002.
Elia is survived by two sons: Ronald (Ruthanne) of Bloomfield, Connecticut and Eugene III (Pamela) of Williamstown; 6 grandchildren: Adam (Chloe) of Charlottesville,Virginia, Daniel(Courtney) of Marlborough, Massachusetts, Aaron(Amber) of Olathe, Kansas, Adam (Sarah) of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Amanda and Alex of Williamstown; 5 great grandchildren: Lila of MA., Ava, Andrew (Drew) and Amelia of KS, and Emma of OK, and several nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister Ida Cerasale, a brother Silvio, and a grandson Andrew.
Elia graduated from Gordon College of Theology and later received a degree
in Education from Central Connecticut University. She retired from Meriden(CT) Board of Education with 17 years of service. She taught fourth grade at
Benjamin Franklin School in Meriden. In addition to teaching elementary school she was very active in church and mission work at First Baptist Church of Meriden, CT. Upon retirement she and her husband, Leo, moved to Williamstown in 1994. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Marietta where she was a deacon and member of the women’s circle. She was also a member of Marietta Kiwanis and the Williamstown Women’s Club. She will be fondly remembered for her baking and especially for her wonderful cookies.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8pm on Tuesday with funeral services at the McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home in Marietta on Wednesday at 10:30am with Reverend Kenneth Calebaugh officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in her honor to the First Baptist Church of Marietta of Hospice Care.
