Eloise F. White, 98, formerly of Vincent, OH, passed away at 9:25pm, Friday, February 16, 2024 at the home of her daughter. She was born March 23, 1925 in Lowell, OH, a daughter of Joseph H. Burke, Sr. and Vesta Chandler Burke.

Eloise graduated from Lowell High School. She joined the Woman’s Air Corps in 1945 and was the first woman of color from Washington County to join the military. While in the military, she met her husband Edward T. White who was a Major in the U. S. Air Force. After her military service, she graduated from Tuskegee University. She was recently inducted into the Washington County Veterans Hall of Fame, was a lifetime member of Lowell Post 750 American Legion, and was a member of Women’s Auxiliary of Post 64 and Post 714 and over a 30-year member of TOPS 399.

She is survived by her son and daughter, Steven G. White (U. S. Air Force retired) of Henderson, Nevada and Karen A. White (Odell Perry) of Columbus, Ohio, her sister Shirley Norris of Zanesville, several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews. She loved all her family, special mention: Debbie Barnett, Linda Holbert, Pat Singer, Randy and Rocky Norris, Skipper Gunn, Malvin Moore, Robert Dalton and a special cousin Sonja Chandler.

Eloise was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Barbara White, brothers and sisters: McKinley Burke, Joseph H. Burke, Jr., Robert Burke, Donald Burke, Lillian Burke, Dorothy Payton, Ethel Rush, Mary Hughes and Betty Stewart.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday (Feb. 24) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial following in Rainbow Cemetery. Family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 4 until 8. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
