Elwin Lowell Walls

Elwin Lowell Walls, 72, of New Matamoras, passed away on August 12, 2012, at The Ohio State University Medical Center.

He was born June 17, 1940, in Chillicothe, OH, to the late Rev. Elwin and Louise Coy Walls.  Lowell graduated from Graysville High School in 1958.  He then served in the United State Air Force as a radar operator until 1962.  He worked at Union Carbide as an electrician for 12 years and then later retired in 2002 as a supervisor for Consolidated Aluminum.  He served as a Ludlow Township Clerk, was Past Master of Masterton Masonic Lodge #429, and attended the Lawrence Baptist Church.  He enjoyed many outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing.  Golf was his latest activity and quickly became his passion.  He also enjoyed watching Fox News and his Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Reds ball teams. Above all else, Pap enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family.
 
Lowell is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lucy Sharon Decker Walls of New Matamoras; his daughter Dawn Renee (Kirk) Gutberlet of Dart; his son, David Lowell (Rochelle) Walls of North Ridgeville, OH, his grandsons, Tyler Scott, Benjamin David and Jacob Lowell Gutberlet and Owen David and Justin Scott Walls; his sister, Judy (Larry) Hamilton of Lebanon, his brother, Glenn (Diane) Walls of Mantua, OH, his sisters-in-law, Mary (Jack) Haessly of Marietta, Phyllis (Dale) Haught, Connie Scott and Grace Decker, all of New Matamoras; and several nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by his best friends, Dave and Joyce Gutberlet of Beverly; and the remaining members of his golf foursome, Joe Craig, Jack Haessly and Dave Gutberlet.
 
In addition of his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Scott Allen Walls; sister Linda Faye; and his brothers-in-laws Gene Decker and George Scott.
 
Funeral services will be held on Saturday (August 18) at 1:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Gale Lauderman officiating.  Burial will follow in Muskingum Valley Baptist Cemetery with full military rites.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening after 4:00 with family present from 4-8.  Masonic services will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening at 7:30.  Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.mslfuneralhome.com.
