Erma Ruth Siders

Erma Ruth Siders, 87, of Marietta, passed away at 6:20 am at home surrounded by her loving family on Monday, July 20, 2009.

She was born on June 14, 1922, in Youngstown, Ohio a daughter of Charles and Helen Madison Wright.  She was a devoted, loving mother, grannie and wife.  Erma was a member of Auxiliary VFW Post 5108, Eastern Star, the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley, North Shore Animal League, Advocates for Animals, Humane Society of the United States, Frontier CB Radio Club, Buckeye Twirlers Square Dance Club, American Legion Auxiliary Post 64, Gold Star Mothers, and a member of Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church in Naples Florida. She volunteered at the Oak Grove Fire Department Ice Cream Social and was a Red Cross Volunteer.  She enjoyed karaoke, camping, CB Round-Ups, garage sales and helping others

On July 5, 1942, she married Leland E. “Jack” Siders who preceded her in death on September 7, 1998.  Erma is survived by 2 sons and 2 daughters:  David L. (Pam) Siders of Marietta, Kenneth D. Siders of Belpre, Nancy E. Biehl of Marietta with who she made her home for the last 5 years, and Linda J. (Orris) Johnson of Naples, FL.  She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren and 3 special friends: Dot Wittekind, Eunice Busch and Wilma Christopher.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her stepfather Willis Rieger who raised her from the age of 3, and 2 sons: Richard “Dick” Siders who died in Japan in 1965 while in route to Vietnam and Jack Siders, Jr. who died in 1980 while serving with the Merchant Marines and daughter-in-law Doris Siders.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (July 22) at 2:00 at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Reverend Richard Heller officiating.  Burial will be in Valley Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 5:00 pm on Tuesday with family present from 6 until 8.
