Ethel E. Newhart
Ethel E. Newhart died, at the age of ninety-eight, Tuesday, October 9, 2012, in Boonton, New Jersey, where she lived since 2003. She was preceded in death on January 9, 1987 by her husband of forty-seven years, Clarence A. "Fritz" Newhart. Mrs. Newhart, known by three generations of nieces and nephews as "Auntie Ethel," was for decades a caring, contributing member of the Marietta, Ohio community. She was the oldest living member of Marietta's Junior Business League, the recipient of the Golden Circle-Beta Sigma Phi's 50-Year Award, a member of the American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary, Betsey Mills Club Board, the First Baptist Church, and a volunteer at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
A 1932 graduate of Marietta High School, Mrs. Newhart attended Maumee College, and in 1938 was named Miss Ohio. She was employed by the F.W. Woolworth Company in Marietta, before relocating in 1940 to Washington, DC, to work for the federal government throughout World War II. Mrs. Newhart returned to Marietta and built a career in insurance, at which she held key positions respectively for the Fran Flanders and Harry Pettit Insurance Companies.
Mrs. Newhart, was born August 1, 1914, Lowell, Ohio, the second daughter of Harry J. Wenzel and Elizabeth Born Wenzel. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy M. Casella of Proctorville, Ohio, and she was preceded in death by sisters Leona M. Haas (Marietta) and Betty C. Flora (Crestview Hills, KY), and brother Hayward "Dick" Wenzel (Bucyrus, OH).
Friends may call on Saturday (Oct. 20) from 10:30 until the funeral service at 11:30 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Chad Mugrage officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Township Cemetery.
