Eugene B. Uhl
Eugene B. Uhl, 77, of Lakeland, Florida, former resident of Williamstown and Devola, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Parkersburg, WV, on December 12, 1931, and attended school in Williamstown. Gene had worked at Fenton Art Glass in his early years, and later was employed by Union Carbide in the Power Plant, McClure-Schafer Funeral Home and American Cyanamid/Cytec. He managed a mobile home park, El Camba, at Lakeland, FL. Gene joined the US Navy in 1951 during the Korean Conflict, serving 2 years in Japan and 2 years aboard the Herbert J. Thomas.
On August 5, 1951, Gene married Patricia A. Pettit who survives with daughters: Sandra J. (Donald) Landers of Marietta, Deborah A. Cline (Dennis Lambert) of Williamstown, and Rebecca A. (David) Pritchett of Marietta; grandchildren: Mandy (David) Stroud, Andrea (Mike) Hogue, Natalie Cline and her fiancé Jason Monroe, Sarah, John and David Landers; great grandchildren: Skyler Stroud, Bailey and Madison Hogue. Also surviving are sister-in-law Betty (Bill) Reynolds, brother-in-law Harry E. (Jean) Pettit, Jr., James L. (Marilyn) Pettit and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and his dog Casey, who was his friend and companion.
He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Sinclair Uhl and brother William Uhl.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 23, at 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church in Marietta with burial in Valley Cemetery with full military rites. Friends may call at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home after 2:00 on Thursday afternoon with family present from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8.
