Fay L. Spies
Fay Louise Spies, 95, of Lower Salem passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, February 14, 2019, to be with the Lord.
Miss Spies was a great lover of history, genealogy, reading and traveling. Her memberships included: The Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Bethany Shrine #4, The Marietta Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Ohio Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century, Society of Daughters of the War of 1812, Aurelius #60, Order of the Eastern Star, Washington County Historical Society and Little Muskingum Grange and Pomona. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women of Lower Salem. She taught at Lawrence High and then moved on to retire from the Marietta City Schools and was a member of the Washington County Retired Teachers Association.
She was survived by especially close friends, Bill and Janet Kidd of Lower Salem, Mike and Denise Gerber of Lower Salem, Bob and Kim Gerst of Lower Salem, Norman and Dorothy Wilkinson of Marietta, Harry and Orpha Conger of Wadsworth, OH, Tammy Britton of Marietta and Diane Pavlik of New Concord, Daniel & Cheri Adams of the home, Carmen Kramer her care givers, and numerous extended family of cousins around the country.
She was an only child born September 20, 1923, to Herbert Carl Spies and Hazel Irene Stephens Spies in Lower Salem, Ohio, both of whom preceded her in death. Lovingly attended by Mike and Janice Heward of M & J Personal Care of St. Marys, WV and Amedisys Hospice.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday (Feb. 19) at 11:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Lou Verdi officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday after 4:00 pm until 7:30 pm followed by Eastern Star services. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mid-Ohio Valley Humane Society, Little Muskingum Grange, Order of Eastern Star or Lower Salem United Methodist Church.
