Fay Pauline Fleming

Fay Pauline Fleming, 97, of Marietta passed away Friday, December 19, 2014 at Harmar Place.  She had been a resident if Jaycee Estates for the past 17 years and prior to that a resident of McConnelsville.
 
She was born August 29, 1917 at Bartlett to Albert M. and Edith (Campbell) Funk.  On June 1, 1935 she married Chester L. Fleming who preceded her in death on October 14, 1971.  Fay is survived by her sons Phillip Fleming (Diane) of Devola and Richard Fleming (Joan) of Milwaukee, WI.  Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.  A sister Frances Keney of Harmar Place and a brother Albert Forest Funk of Tennessee, sisters-in-law Winifred Cunningham, Mary McGowan and Betty Funk and many nieces and nephews also survive.
 
In addition to her parents and husband Fay was preceded in death by a brother James Funk and great grandchildren Brandon and Jessica Fleming.
 
Fay had worked at B.F. Goodrich before retiring from Cleveland Graphite Bronze (now MIBA Bearings) of McConnellsville in 1983 after 30 years of service.  While employed Fay assisted in the organizing of the Local 986 I.A.M., where she served as secretary for over 25 years.  She was also a member of Southeast Ohio Labor Council where she was secretary for 10 years, and was a member of Labor Council #28 I.A.M in Zanesville serving as a shop steward on the negotiating committee and chairman of the Worker’s Comp. Committee.
 
After Fay’s retirement, she volunteered at Bethesda Hospital in Zanesville for 2 years. She began her volunteer work for the American Cancer Society, after her husband’s death, where she served as President of the Morgan County Chapter.  In 1982 Fay was asked to service as Executive Director of Morgan County and retired in 1997 after 25 years of service.  Fay was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary to V.F.W. Post 4713 and served in all offices of both her own district and District 5 for many years.
 
Fay was a life long Methodist and a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister.  She enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends and was an avid reader.  Fay dedicated her entire life to helping other and her kindness and generosity will always be remembered.
 
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Harmar Place for all the care they gave Fay.
 
Graveside services will be held 10:30 am Wednesday, December 24th at Bartlett Cemetery with Galen Finley officiating.  The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home.  Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
