Florence Evalena Allen
Florence Evalena Erb Allen of Marietta, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 22, 2009, at 7:25pm at her home. She was surrounded by her loving family and her special caregiver granddaughter Staci.
She was born June 12, 1923, in Marietta to the late Phillip L. and Lena Ica Holiday Erb and her stepmother Freda B. Jones Moore Erb. She retired from B F Goodrich after 22 years of employment. She was a member of the Hills United Methodist Women’s Society and attended Souls Harbor Church. She enjoyed going to yard sales and spending time with family and friends.
On October 24, 1943, she married Lester “Buck” Allen who preceded her in death on December 19, 1972. She is survived by 6 children: Evalena (Bob) Barth of Reno, Lester (Carolyn) Allen, Jr. of Arizona, Bill (Jeanne) Allen of Wyoming, Barry (Sallie) Allen of St. Marys, WV, Sundena Handschumaker of Marietta, and Rocky (Chyrs) Allen of Marietta. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Troy (Tamela) Barth, Tina (Eric) Dunn, Tracy Handschumaker and friend Christine Clark, Staci (Jody) Bland, Scott Handschumaker (Ashley McIntyre), Jon Allen, Suzanne Higgs (Joe McKitrick), Stephanie Rector (Aaron Dunn), Jessica Allen, Lori (David) Coull, Andy (Mindy) Allen, Lora Eckert, Andy Kingery. She is also survived by 19 great grandchildren: Tristan (Terry), Wyatt, Sierra, Rebecca, Herbert, Brandon, Hunter, Hayden, Gage, David, Alora, Alyssa, Chloe, Isabella, Austin, Alexis, Jaelyn, Andora, Randon; brother-in-law Emmett Moore, Sr. of Marietta and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers: Dewey, Norman and Wally Erb and John W. Moore who was reared in the family home; sisters: Mary Erb, Opal Lorena Erb and Viola Moore, and grandson Phillip Michael Allen.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday (October 29th) at 1:30pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Reverend Gale Lauderman and Jeff Walker officiating. Burial will be in Valley Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2:00 pm on Wednesday with family present from 2-4 and 6-8.
