George Russell “Russ” Emerick
George Russell “Russ” Emerick, USMC, ascended to join his Lord and Savior and the Corps guarding Heaven on October 18, 2016.
Russ was honorably discharged a Corporal in the United States Marine Corp after serving a tour in Vietnam. Along with other medals, he was awarded the Purple Heart.
Before serving his country and upon his return, Russ worked at Selby General Hospital. He worked there 47 years, starting as a clerk and retiring as Department Head of Maintenance and Engineering.
He is preceded in death by his father George F. Emerick and his mother Joan (Berry) Emerick Allphin and his beloved brother John Emerick.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 44 years, Deanna (Baker) Emerick, his daughter Elizabeth Emerick-Hupp (Jason) and 3 grandchildren–Samantha, Shawna and Zachary Hupp. He also leaves behind his sister, JoEllen Emerick, also his special little dog, Poody.
Services were held for immediate family and close friends at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home in Marietta with full military honors. “Going Home” and “Amazing Grace” were performed on the bagpipes by Stu Diamond.
The family would like to extend their sincerest warm thanks to Hospice, Dr. Cawley and Dr. Dennis for going above and beyond to call of duty to make Russ’ last days comfortable.
