George W. Cozzens

George W. Cozzens, 85, of Palmer Township, went to be with his Lord, on Thursday, June 11, 2009.

He was born November 6, 1923 in Belpre to Rolla Dean and Pearl Elba Burnfield Cozzens.  As a resident of Palmer Township since 1945, George had attended Oak Hill United Methodist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge 293.  He had served as an airplane mechanic/flight engineer for the US Army Air Corps during WW II and retired from Elkem Metals in 1983.

On April 2, 2009, George observed his 60th wedding with his wife Virginia, who survives.  A day of celebration was held on March 28 with several friends and family members.

In addition to his wife, Virginia, he is survived by his son Ken (Vicki) Cozzens and daughters Nancy (Carl) Chandler and Connie (Michael Lucas) Lawrence.   Also surviving are grandchildren: Marcus and Nathan Cozzens, Shauna (Phil) Skinner, Amanda (Rick) Schmidt, Maggie (Steven) Ashby, Nicolette and Brandon Lawrence, and Michael Lucas Jr. and great grandchildren: Breanna and Seth Skinner and John and Darrion Schmidt. Brothers John (Barbara) Cozzens and Robert Cozzens, and sister Lucille White also survive with several nieces, nephews and friends.

His parents, four brother and five sisters preceded George in death.

At his request George will be cremated, and a graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.  McClure-Schafer-Lankford is assisting the family.
