Georgene Timko Johnson

Georgene Timko Johnson, 76, of Marietta passed away at 10:25 am on September 8, 2025 at Elison of Marietta.

She was born May 8, 1949 in Walton Hills, Ohio to George and Agnes (Kubasha) Timko. Georgene graduated from Lumen Cordium High School in Bedford, Ohio and was one of the first graduating classes of Cleveland State University. After graduation, Georgene went on to get her Master of Library Science at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She was employed as a librarian with Cleveland State University, before becoming the Director of Technology Services at Marietta College. Georgene then became the Director of Library Services at North Eastern State University in Tahlequah, OK before returning to Marietta to become the Director of Library Services at Washington State Community College and opening the Establishment Restaurant on the Westside. She was an active member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption.

Georgene was known for her impish sense of humor and strong ties to her Hungarian heritage. She was an excellent cook and baker and loved to used those skills to entertain people. Above all Georgene loved to help people.

On November 15, 1997 she married Warren L Johnson who survives with children Thaddeus Johnson and Russell (Kimberly) Johnson, grandson Mitchell Johnson and a sister Virginia (Jack) Schultis. Also surviving are nieces and nephews Therese Chapman, Elaine (John) Eacott, Karen (Jason) Hillegas, Martin (Catherine) Timko, Anthony (Tracy) Timko and Kathleen (Bryan) Morgan and a great nephew and niece Evan and Alea Eacott and Zane and Isaac Timko.

In addition to her parents, Georgene was preceded in death by a brother Robert Timko and sisters Elaine (Ernest) Chapman and Ann Marie Schafle and a nephew Joseph Schafle.

A green burial will occur in New St. Mary’s Cemetery on Friday September 12th at 1:00 pm and a Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am October 4, 2025 at the Basilica of St Mary of the Assumption.
