Gerald Swaney
Gerald Swaney, 91, of Marietta passed away 6:34 am Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at the Arbors at Marietta, with his loving wife and family at his bedside.
He was born on November 7, 1919 in Marietta to the late George A. and Martha A. (Forshey) Swaney. Gerald was a veteran of World War II while serving in the US Navy and also a member of the Wagner Union Church of Marietta. He enjoyed singing and playing music and formed the music group called “The Living Room Band”. Gerald retired in 1979 as a truck driver for the CCC Highway Co. after 35 years of service.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Eileen Moore Swaney, four children Randy (Janet) Swaney, of Marietta, Diane Spindler of Marietta, Geraldine (Tom) Swaney Yakubik of Barlow, and James P. (Lori) Swaney of Marietta. Five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren also survive with a sister Thelma Lowther of Lakewood, CO. A sister-in-law Jane Swaney of Marietta and several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by a son-in-law Richard Spindler, Jr. on April 1, 2011 and brothers Floyd, Everett, Delbert and Glen Swaney and sisters Violet Swaney and Dorothy Seeley.
Funeral Services will be held 9:30 am, Friday April 29th at the Wagner Union Church with Gene Ferrell officiating. Entombment will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home at 6 pm Thursday with the family present from 6-8 and 1 hour at the church prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wagner Union Church, 1584 Glendale Road, Marietta.
