Helen Mae Smith
Helen Mae Smith, 94, of Marietta, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 4:45am on January 9, 2014, at Arcadia Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Helen was born March 12, 1919, at Moss Creek, to John and Fanny Hendershot. She attended Marietta High School where she met her future husband Robert D. Smith, and on June 9, 1937, they were married. Their happy marriage lasted until Bob's death on June 1, 2006.
She had been an active resident of Marietta and Washington County for many years. Helen and her husband Bob were co-owners of Frontier Jewelry Store in Frontier Shopping Center from 1960 to 1977, and had also worked at Baker & Baker Jewelers.
Surviving Helen is son, Gary (Deborah) Smith, of Belpre; daughter, Susan Smith, of Florida; grandchildren: Josh (Jenn) Smith and children George and Luke; JoAnna (Chris) Sidote; Robert (Julie) Parker; Daniel Parker and children Zach, Jacob and Rileigh; Logan (Meg) Smith , Jason (Rosie) Smith and children Emma and Sophia, Mark (Stacey) Smith. Also Helen's sister Jean Evans, and husband Willis, live in the Oak Grove section of Marietta.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters Leah Anders, Clara Rankin, Irene Williams, Ruth Steadman Neader and brothers Dale & David Hendershot, nieces Sandra Williams and Ireta Anders.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday (Jan. 12)at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call from noon on Sunday until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
