Howard Franklin Hunter, 97, of Marietta passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Camden Clark Hospital. He was born on July 25, 1928, in Vincent, OH, a son of the late William Leslie Hunter and Alberta Alice Doan Hunter.

Howard served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Howard was a barber in Marietta and for 60 years owned Pioneer Barber Shop and then Heyrock Barber Shop. He loved golf, bowling, checkers and especially loved watching and supporting his sons with their school events and athletic teams. He was a caregiver for his loving wife in her declining years.

Howard married Martha Naomi Ash who preceded him in death on September 17, 2018.

Surviving are 3 sons, David Howard and wife Jane Carter Hunter, Dwight Keith Hunter, and Douglas Dean and wife Tonja Lee Hunter a brother, Herbert Edwin Hunter and a sister-in-law, Norma Hunter; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Howard was preceded in death by an infant son Melvin Franklin Hunter and siblings: Mildred Eileen Hunter and Raymond Harold Woodburn, Robert William and Mildred Marie Hunter, James Harry and Marie Hunter, Lewis Doan and Elise Jo Hunter, Richard Paul Hunter, and Donald Dean Hunter.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday (Mar. 14) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial following in Valley Cemetery. Family will greet friends on Friday evening (Mar. 13) from 5:00 until 7:00pm and on Saturday before the service from 11:00am until 1:00pm.
