Ida Alberta Lewis Harris 96, of Marietta, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 3, 2024.
She was born on December 15, 1927, in Bridgewater Maine, the daughter of Gordon Lewis and Pearl Stitham Lewis. She graduated from Marietta High School in 1946.
Ida is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Gerald B. (Tag) Harris; her brothers Max and Merle Lewis; her sisters, Lorraine Lewis Cummings and Edrie Lewis Callnan; stepbrother Halston Lewis, stepsister Judy Lavash; and her beloved dog Scooter.
She is survived by daughters Joyce Robinson (David), Sue Harris (Michael Catheline), Lynn Stallcup (Jim) and sons Jerald (Jack) Harris and Clark Harris (Betty); 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren; and stepsisters Wanda Fontaine, Dawn Bourque, and Glenda Auciello.
Ida worked at several retail and service jobs before she was employed by Fenton Art Glass, from which she retired after many years as a customer service specialist.
Ida loved babies—her own and many others—her dog Scooter and her family. She delighted in her grandchildren and her many great and great-great grandchildren. She was always available with a hug and her rocking chair to sooth a crying or sleepy child. She was an avid reader and loved her flower garden and the hummingbirds she watched from her living room window. She volunteered as a 4-H advisor and guided many children, including her own, through their local chapter. She drove for Head Start when the program began in the Marietta area.
At Ida’s request, her body will be cremated, and a private memorial service will be held at the convenience of her family.
