J. R. (Jack) Nolen

J. R. (Jack) Nolen, of Punta Gorda, Fl. and Marietta, Oh died after his battle with brain cancer at the Tidewell Hospice House on April 26, 2010 in Punta Gorda, FL with his wife Jean and sister Maebell by his side.

Mr. Nolen attended the Cleveland United Methodist Church in Punta Gorda, FL. He was born December 28, 1934 in Cook County, Ga., and the son of Guy Hayward & Minnie Owens Nolen. His father and stepmother Hattie Jane Nichols raised him.  He served in the U.S. Army and retired in 1995 from Marietta Memorial Hospital after 33 years of service. la Marietta he belonged to the BPOE #477, Fraternal Order of Eagles #458, and Moose Lodge #1 823. He served as State Trustee for the Ohio Fraternal Order of Eagles; Worthy President 3 times and as trustee for 1 8 years at the local Eagles, and as a First Ward Councilman for the city of Marietta. He owned the Barge Inn.

He is survived by his wife Jean Jeffers Nolen, whom he married June 27, 1953; daughters Jan Tabor and her husband Roger of Marietta, Sabrina Kerhin and her husband Tom of Richfield, Oh, sons J.R. Nolen, Jr. and wife Tina of Springfield, VA, and Don Nolen and Shawn of Baton Rouge, LA.  Three grandsons Scott Britton and Nina of Cincinnati, OH and Ash Britton and Amanda of Pickerington, OH and Jared Nolen, of Springfield, VA and great grandson Kaiden,  Brother Hayward Hubert Nolen of Mineral Wells, TX, and sisters Willie and Inez West, Powder Springs, GA, Mike and Sandra White, Alpharetta, GA, Maebell Fletcher, Tifton, GA, Loyce Dunn, Deatsville, AL, sister-in-law Mrs. Ellis Nolen, of Omega, GA , and Mrs. Troy McWhorter of Dothan, AL.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother and stepmother, one Grandson, Nathan Nolen, three brother's Wilburn Nolen, Ellis Nolen, Jefferson Nolen, Troy McWhorter and sister Barbara Nolen Thrift and brother-in-laws Bobby Thrift and Hollis Fletcher.

Funeral services will be held 11 am Monday, May 10th at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral home, Marietta, presided over by his brother Rev. Hayward Hubert Nolen. Burial will follow in Valley Cemetery. . Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 pm Saturday, the family will be present from 3 to 7 on Saturday and Sunday.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
