James E. Crum, Sr.
James E. Crum, Sr. 70, of Whipple, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 30, 2013. He was born on February 20, 1942, in Marietta to Dale E. and Ruth Smith Crum. Jim was a 1960 graduate of Marietta High School. Prior to his retirement from Dupont in 2004 he was self-employed as a painter and contractor. He was a member of Twin Rivers Baptist Church. Jim enjoyed woodworking, gardening, tinkering in his garage, participating in the Easter dramas at his church and volunteering at Marietta Memorial Hospital, especially Strecker Cancer Center. He was looking forward to his favorite past time, the Marietta College Baseball season.
On May 25, 1963, Jim married Shirley VanFossen and they were anticipating their 50th Wedding Anniversary later this year.
His wife Shirley survives with children: Dianne Russell, Angela (Bryan) Johnson, James Crum, Jr., all of Marietta, Tricia (Bill) Ayers of San Benito, TX, Dan (Carrie) Crum of Vienna; grandchildren: Steven of Tip City, Tony and Angela of Centrevile, VA, Amy of Marietta, Stephanie of Bowling Green, Amanda (Jesse) Detlor, Matt, Kellie all of Marietta and Chloe of Vienna. He is also survived by brothers: Robert, Lloyd and Roger Crum.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law Craig Russell.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday (Feb. 2) at Twin Rivers Baptist Church with Pastor Jeffrey Baumer officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Township Cemetery.
