James E. Martin

He was born April 3, 1925, to the late Everett Lyle Martin and Anna Elizabeth Kenney Martin at Pennsville, OH. He enlisted in the Navy soon after his graduation from Spencer High School, and he was decorated for bravery while serving on an LST in the Mediterranean during World War II. He attended Ohio University in Athens, OH, on the GI Bill, where he graduated cum laude in 1953. He was employed by Fenton Art Glass as Office Manager/Credit Manager/ Traffic Manager for 27 years. He was a member of the Williamstown Lions Club, American Legion and the Williamstown Methodist Church, where he served as Treasurer for many years. In recent years, in cooperation with K-Mart, he funded Coats-For-Kids for students at Williamstown Elementary School. He was generous and humane to people and animals, a Good Samaritan, and will be greatly missed by his family, friends and community.
In 1948 he married Darlene Woodburn, who survives with their five children: Nancy Martin Page, Cedar Point, NC, Janice Martin Fenton (John), Williamstown, WV, James T. "Tom" Martin (Lynn), Mobile, AL, Marsha Martin Houston (Bud), Watertown, OH and Jeffrey David Martin, Jacksonville, FL, six grandchildren, Timothy Page, Arlington, VA, Susannah Page Barringer (Chad), Knightdale, NC, Melanie Page Cooper (Kenneth), Saline, MI, Eric Fenton (Amanda), Martinsburg, WV, James Fenton, Williamstown, WV, Ian Martin, Jacksonville, FL, and four great-grandchildren, Reed Cooper, Brett Cooper, Cynthia Cooper and Troy Cooper, all of Saline, MI.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by siblings Majel Miller Weiss, Carlin Martin, Ivyl Arnold Padrutt, Vivian Clifford, and Richard Martin.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Saturday, December 27th at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial following in Dale Cemetery.
