James R. Williams

James R. Williams, 81, of Marietta passed away Friday, March 31, 2017.  He was born October 24, 1935, to Charles and Virginia Williams in Mt. Hope, WV.  He married Jennie Theis Williams on May 7, 1954.
 
He was a banker for 42 years and gave many people the opportunity to buy their first home or start a business.  For more than 50 years, he was a member of many committees and organizations helping to benefit Marietta. Jim was especially proud of being a Marietta Noon Lion and being awarded both Lion of the Year and lifetime membership.  As a lion, he chaired the committee to begin the restoration of the Marietta Ohio River Levy.  Jim graduated from West High School in Cleveland and attended Marietta College.  He taught banking courses at Ohio Valley College and Marietta College for more than 20 years.
 
Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jennie, one son, Michael D. Williams of Columbus, one grandson Simon Williams of Kansas City, MO; one sister Christine (Robert) George of Strongsville, OH, many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Charles and Patrick, and 2 sisters, Linda and Sherry.
 
Jim donated his body to West Virginia University Human Gift Registry for research to benefit others.  A memorial service will be held on Tuesday (April 4) at 1:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home.  Family will greet friends before the service from noon until 1.  Messages of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.Lankfordfh.com.
