John H. Lowery, Sr.
John H. Lowery, Sr., 77, of Belpre passed away at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at his home. He was born on March 10, 1936, in Marietta a son of William and Rebecca McGill Lowery.
John attended Marietta High School and served for 4 years in the U.S. Navy on the USS Freemont. He had worked for Vogue Swift Cleaners, Richardson Printing, was a bus driver for Ewing School and Marietta City Schools and retired from Community Action after 20 years of service. He enjoyed wrestling, NASCAR and dirt track racing, and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On December 19, 1959, he married Phyllis Bailey who survives with their 2 children, John (Mary) Lowery of Belpre and Debbie (Terry) Seevers of Vincent; grandchildren: Jessica Lowery and fiancé Lee Fultz, Stacey Lowery and her fiancé Ralph White, David and Vickie Lowery, Chelsey Lowery, Tommy and Lisa Fornash, Crystal (Matt) Ware, Donny Martin and fiancé Samantha Evans; 21 great grandchildren; brother Robert (Ruth) Lowery of Canal Winchester and sister Mary Lee of Marietta.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 brothers, 3 sisters and grandson Danny Fornash.
Funeral services will be held on Monday (Nov. 25) at 10:30 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Dick Saltzwedel officiating. Burial will follow in Putnam Cemetery.
