Karl W. Zartman, Sr.

Karl William Zartman, Sr, of Sandhill Road, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2008 at Heartland of Marietta.

He was born on December 26, 1925, in Wauseon, Ohio, a son of Karl Emanuel and Mary Elizabeth Wack Zartman.  Karl attended both Heidelberg College and Ohio State University and was retired Principal of Lawrence Elementary and a teacher at Newport Schools.  He had served in the U. S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater 1943 – 1946 and during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952.  He was a member of United Dutch Reformed Church, Frontier Lions Club and Past District Governor of Ohio District 13K from 1984-1985, VFW, American Legion, Masons, Shrine, and Knigths Templar.  He enjoyed woodworking and reading.

Karl married Alberta Zartman who preceded him in death on October 12, 1997.  He is survived by his 2 sons: Ronald K. Zartman of Newberg, OR, and Karl W. Zartman, Jr. of Newport; stepsons:  Wayne Allen (Kathleen) Kuhn of Laguna Niguel, CA, and James Kuhn of Florida; grandchildren:  Emily Zartman, Jeb Zartman, Alex Zartman, Levi Zartman, Dan (Michelle) Kuhn, James Kuhn,  Karen (Emory) Sweat, Mark Kuhn and great granddaughter, Felicia Zartman,  Also he is survived by his sister, Kathryn Sommerlatte, and nephews Donald and James Wilson.

Karl was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 24th, at 10:00 at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Reverend Michael Webber officiating.  Graveside services will be at 2:00pm on Frday at the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Cemetery at Glenford, Ohio.  Friends may call from 2:00pm on Thursday until the hour of the service.  Family will be present from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9.  On line condolences may be made at: www.mslfuneralhome.com.
