Katherine G. Barth

Katherine G. Barth, 89, of Williamstown, went to be with our Lord unexpectedly at 2:52 a.m. on Sunday (July 19, 2009) at Selby General Hospital.

She was born on June 30, 1920, in Wood County, W.Va., a daughter of William and Lola Rowley Brothers. Katherine had been a telephone operator for Ohio Bell, worked at Garber's Store in Williamstown and retired from J. C. Penney's in Marietta. She was a member of the Church of Christ since her teens and was a very faithful member of Riverside Church of Christ in Williamstown and involved in all activities at the church. She was also a member of Williamstown Senior Citizens. She loved cooking, especially baking her children and grandchildren's birthday cakes. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed having everyone together for family dinners.

In 1945, she married Robert L. Barth, who preceded her in death in 1966. Katherine is survived by her daughter, Carmen Gates (Gale Karcher) of Vienna, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Marie Holtz (Bill Snyder), Alan Gates and Heather, Daniel Gates, and Marisa Broadwater and Bill, all of Williamstown; seven great-grandchildren, Anthony Holtz and Kayla Britton, both of Marietta, Andrew Holtz, Ashley Benson, James Broadwater, Jessica Broadwater, Cullen Meadow, Alison Gates and special friend Millie Houser, all of Williamstown. Also surviving are one sister, Bette Willison of Springfield, Va.; and former son-in-law, Donald R. Gates of Vienna.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and three sisters and three brothers, Lola Forrester, Cecil Brothers, Estella Boll, Wylie Brothers, Kenneth Brothers, and Ruth Brothers, who died at the age of 7.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday (July 22) at Riverside Church of Christ on Caroline Avenue in Williamstown. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home after 2 p.m. on Tuesday with family present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.
