Kenneth L. Hill
Kenneth Hill, 86, of Oak Grove, Marietta, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at 7:45 p.m. at his residence.
He was born September 16, 1923 at Hills Post Office, Marietta to the late Earl Mendenhall Hill and Mabel Lane Hill. After the death of his mother, at age 6, he and his siblings were cared for by his grandmother, Emma Hill. He attended Marietta High School.
In 1943 he entered the U. S. Army and served with Company A, 558th Sig Air Warning Battalion. His tour of duty included, Japan, Central Burma and India Burma. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He was a member of American Legion Post 64.
Before retiring he had been employed by the U. S. Postal Service in Marietta for 30 years, and by Otis Elevator and Rich Loaf Bakery. He was a big fan of Marietta College baseball and enjoyed watching sports on TV.
He is survived by three sons, James (Rita) Hill of Marietta, David (Malorie) Hill of Jacksonville, FL, and Craig Hill of Marietta; one granddaughter, Megan (Greg) Gault of Marietta; two greatgrandchildren, Madison and Ethan Gault; two sisters, Irene Miller and Beulah Patterson of Marietta; step brothers Ronald Hill, Larry Hill, Teddy Hill; and step sisters, Shirley Wheeler, Judith Snodgrass, Cathy Daugherty, all of Marietta, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death on March 1 , 2009 by his wife of 63 years, Norma J. Hill, whom he married on October 1, 1946; his brother, Lowell Hill; sisters, Delores Grub, Theora Miller, and Phyllis Ullman; stepbrothers, Max Hill and Rex Hill; and stepsister, Sharon Strickler.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday (August 6th) at McClure-Schafer- Lankford Funeral Home, 314 Fourth Street, Marietta. The Rev. Don Archer will officiate . Burial and military services will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. Family will greet friends from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Memorial donations may be given to the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department, 102 Oak Grove Lane, Marietta, OH 45750.
