Lawrence O. Flowers

Lawrence O. Flowers, 73, of Vienna, passed away at 10:40 pm, Sunday (Dec., 29, 2013), at Marietta Memorial Hospital after a long battle with cancer.  He was born on August 6, 1940, in Pleasants County, WV, a son of Curtis Flowers and Ada Higgins Flowers.  

Lawrence attended Belmont Grade School, graduated St. Marys High School, and  graduated Washington State Community College with an Associate Degree in Industrial Technology.   He was employed at American Bisque and later employed for 31 years at A. B. Chance Company where he was union president for 17 years, secretary of the Credit Union.  He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.   His family was most important to him and he especially enjoyed watching his 2 granddaughters play sports.  His hobbies were gardening, cooking and helping others.

On October 14, 2000, he married Cheryl McCain who survives.  Also surviving are 2 sons and 1 daughter by a previous marriage:  Brenda Sue (Danny) Ellis, William Joe (Jeannette) Flowers, Larry Wayne (Heather) Flowers all of Williamstown; step-daughter,  Shanda Adams (Rob Kelley); 7 grandchildren:  Alexandria “Ali”, Elizabeth “Liz”, Albert, Kayla, Bonnie, Manuel and Kim; 5 step grandchildren:  Gene, Abbie, Christian, Anna Grace, Makayla, 2 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren.  He is also survived by 3 sisters:  Garnet Malone of Waverly, Betty Reynolds of Belmont, Vaudia (Herscel) Greathouse of St. Marys; 2 brothers, Donald (Ellen) Flowers and Marvin Flowers both of Waverly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Geraldine Moore and 2 brothers, Robert and Gale Flowers.
 
Funeral services will be held on Friday (Jan. 3) at 11:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Bob Long officiating.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday after 2:00 pm with family present from 2-4 & 6-8.  Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.  Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.lankfordfh.com.
