Lt. Colonel George James Schlatter

Lt. Colonel George James Schlatter (Jim), age 92, of Belpre, Ohio went to his eternal heavenly home with the Lord on Saturday, May 24, 2025.
Born July 19, 1932, and raised in Fort Wayne, IN, Jim grew to become an avid basketball fan, playing guard at Michigan State University, and a lifelong Spartan fan. He went on to have a decorated career as a US Air Force pilot which spurred on his next chapter as both a private pilot and proud owner of his own Cessna for impromptu adventures. A committed marathon runner, popcorn lover, church usher, western film enthusiast and rock collector; Jim was the most honorable man with a radiant smile and ever-present sense of humor. Jim was a beloved husband, respected father, and adored grandfather.
Jim is survived by his cherished wife of 53 years, Betty “Wid” Schlatter; 3 children, David Schlatter, Kathy Kirby and Tom Ellison; 9 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Ada Schlatter, sisters Katie Widner and Barbara Hobrock, and son, Jimmy Schlatter.
A small private family service to celebrate a life well-lived will be scheduled at a later date.
