Lynne Estelle Markley Wetzel Groves

Lynne Estelle Markley Wetzel Groves, 82, passed from Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV and went Home to be with Jesus on Thursday, January 16, 2025. She was born on April 8, 1942 to Audrey and Ralph Orben Markley in Marietta, Ohio. She was a 1960 graduate of Marietta High School. Lynne married Tom Wetzel on February 10, 1961. She was the secretary to the principal at Marietta High School for over two decades. Lynne retired from the Marietta City School system after nearly thirty years of service. She was a member of Harbor Site Baptist Church where she served as Treasurer for 15 years.

Lynne married Jack Groves on December 4, 1981. She enjoyed family trips to the beach and morning coffee errands with Jack. She was an avid reader, an animal lover, and loved playing board games with her best girls.

She is survived by two daughters – Fawn Wetzel (Brian Harris) and Renee Hodge (Ralph Patten) both of Marietta, as well as ten grandchildren – Amy Metcalf, Jessie Frye (Eric), Brian Metcalf, Meredith Sprague (Adam), Adam Metcalf, Danielle Ludwick (Brandon), Adam Yeager (Shanin), Kyle Hodge (Jill), Matthew Yeager (Kelly), and Megan Gilbert (Jeff). She is also survived by nineteen great-grandchildren.  In addition, Lynne is survived by her life-long and dearest friend, Lousie Pugh. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, her step-daughter (Valorie Mathers), her second husband, one great-grandson (Gabe Sprague) and her son (Chris Wetzel).

In keeping with her final wishes, there will be no public services for Lynne. McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting the family with cremation services per her request. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
