Marilyn Carver Drennen
Marilyn Carver Drennen of Oak Grove died Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Brookdale of Marietta. She was born in Marietta, Ohio on June 6, 1930 to the late Lee and Bernice Tullis Carver. She was a 1948 graduate of Marietta High School and married her high school sweetheart, Bill Drennen, on January 21, 1949. They raised their family in the Oak Grove Community where she served in the Woman’s Auxiliary of the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department and spent many springs working at the Devol-Grimes Greenhouse.
She was a member of the Gilman Avenue United Methodist Church and the Elizabeth Green OCCL. She was instrumental in establishing the Meals on Wheels program in Marietta. She volunteered in the clerical department of Marietta Memorial Hospital for more than twenty years. Marilyn was an avid reader and excelled in candlewick and crewel embroidery. She loved the beach. She and Bill were retired snowbirds, spending their winters in Key West, Florida until his death in 2014.
Marilyn is survived by her sons, David (Karen), Doug (Jan), and her daughter, Sherri (Chris) Hess, her grandchildren, Kenny and Kasey Drennen, Caleb and Connor Hess, Christy Illar, Kelly Dawson, and Bryce Sellars, nine great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Sandi Carver, and her brother-in-law, David (Dorthea) Drennen. Her son, Kevin, brother, Ronald Carver, and grandson, Rusty Sellars, preceded her in death.
A memorial service to celebrate Marilyn’s life will be held Saturday, July 14th , at 1PM at the Gilman Avenue United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Diane O’Bryant officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family following the service in the church multi-purpose room. McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Marilyn’s name may be made to the Gilman Avenue United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.

It was a long good bye. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. We were so blessed to have her in our lives.
