Mary Alberta Seffens

Mary Alberta Seffens went to be with her Lord at 5:55 pm on May 12, 2026 at Harmar Place surrounded by her family.

She was born on October 30, 1937 in Williamstown to the late William (Bill) Richards and Edith Leona Casto Richards. Mary graduated from Doddridge Co. High School in West Union and Washington State College in Marietta. She retired from Marietta Memorial Hospital where she worked as an aide, a secretary and LPN. She had spent her last 23 years at the hospital with the Chemical Dependency Unit as a counselor. She was always supportive of the AA and AN community.

Mary was a former member of the Eagles Arie 458, where she served as chaplain and Madam President. She was also a former member of the Moose. Mary attended the Church of God in Williamstown having been raised in the Pentecostal Faith. She loved singing Karaoke with her family and friends, reading and absolutely loved her flowers. Her greatest loves were God and family.

She was married to Larry Wheeler, and had a son by this marriage, Larry “Dink” G. Wheeler, Jr. of Marietta. She later married Larry G. Newbrough and later married William “Bill” Seffens.

Surviving is her son Larry “Dink” Wheeler, Jr daughter-in-law Roxanna “Rock” Wheeler, grandchildren Jason (Rebecca) Wheeler, Shannon (Derek) McGlumphy, Larry Newbrough III, and Cameron Newbrough. Also surviving are great grandchildren Cayden, Cash and Colbie Wheeler, Kelsi (Tanner) Leach, Kalei (Chance) McGlumphy, Abigail (Wyatt) McGlumphy and Maci Newbrough all of Marietta, and three great great grandchildren Rynlie and Delaine Leach and Casen Weihl. A brother Paul (Janice Richards and sister Phoebe Howell and long-time friends Ron and Ida Watts also survive. She was known by many as Aunt Bert and Grandma Bert. Many nieces and nephews, that she treasured, also survived with many chosen family especially the Morgans.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by brother Eddie Richards and infant brother Carlos Gene Richards, sister Cannie (Tootsie) Lemasters and Gladys Knighton and infant sisters Emma Marie and Patricia Sue Richards and a loving son Larry “Bubba-Jay” Newbrough Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday May 16th at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home burial to follow at Rainbow Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8. Messages of sympathy may be sent at Lankfordfh.com.
