Mary E. Buchanan
Mary Elizabeth Hallett Buchanan went home to meet her Savior and Lord, a resident of Marietta Care and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Bonn, (Whipple) Ohio on October 8th 2010.
She was born on April 10, 1914 in Lower Salem, Ohio to Carl and Wilhelmina (Minnie) Kimnach Hallett.
She married Oather Samuel Buchanan on June 30, 1936 in Fallinsby, WV with whom she had five children; David M. (Margaret) Buchanan of Lowell, Daniel A. (Ila) Buchanan of Kingman, AZ, Linda E. (Jim) Boyce of Lowell, Larry D. (Donna) Buchanan of Lower Salem and Jean Goujon of Kingman, AZ. She had 13 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 11 step great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, 11 step great-great grandchildren. 1 great-great-great grandchild. Brother Jesse Hallett of Alliance, Ohio, Sister Wilma Leatherman of Eureka, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oather; her parents Carl and Wilhelmina Kimnach Hallett; a brother, John Hallett, and four sisters; Pauline Poole, Clarice Lee, Vera Shuman, Juanita Davis and two grandsons, Larry Buchanan, Jr. and Randy Buchanan.
She was a member of the Lower Salem United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She filled her days helping her family with gardening, canning and caring for her grandchildren. She was an avid reader, enjoyed bird watching and tending her flower gardens. She had traveled extensively recording her adventures in a journal, which she shared with family and friends.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Lower Salem Methodist Church or Mt. Ephriam Methodist Church, c/o Linda Boyce, 440 Gun Club Road, Lowell, OH 45744.
Funeral to be held Wednesday, October 13th, at 2:00 pm at the Lower Salem Methodist Church with Pastor Lou Verdi officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 12th, 2 pm to 8 pm at the McClure Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home. Burial will be in Salem Township.
