Mary June Walls Smith
Mary June Walls Smith, 89, of Newport passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at 3:00 pm at Harmar Place in Marietta. She was born on September 14, 1924, in Marietta to the late Charles F. and Edith Walls.
A 1942 graduate of Marietta High School, she worked at The Ohio Valley Grocery and S. S. Kresge’s. She was a member of Newport United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader until her eyesight failed and enjoyed watching game shows on TV and working search-a-word puzzles.
She is survived by children: son Gary (Linda) Smith of Marietta; 2 daughters: Cathy (David) Reynolds of Marietta and Brenda (Tom) Berga of Newport, daughter-in-law Cathy Smith of Marietta, 7 grandchildren: Shannon (John) Ellis of Acworth, GA, Jennifer (Stacy) Utley of Holly Springs, NC, Brad (Kendra) Berga of St. Marys, WV, Tina (Jared) Miller of Newport, Stacy (Sonny) Reynolds of Marietta Eric (Misty) Smith of Bartlett, Stephanie (Ben) Clovis of Lowell, 17 great grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by her loving little 4 legged companion, Torpedo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jobe Smith, Jr. and son, Dana Smith and her parents.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (June 3) at 11:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Burkhardt officiating. Burial will follow in Newport Cemetery.
