Michael Blaine Smarr

Michael Blaine Smarr, 78, of Marietta passed away unexpectedly on January 28, 2026 at Marietta Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was born December 22, 1947 in Orrville, Ohio to Blaine Smarr and Lenora Spotloe Smarr Kines. Michael had worked at Berdines Automotive for 19 years, before becoming in charge of maintenance for St. Mary Catholic School, where he retired after 25 years of service. He loved his job and the kids at the school. Michael especially loved his grandkids who called him “Boppy”.

On August 31, 1970 he married Linda Kern Smarr who survives with their son Michael (Mandy) Smarr and grandchildren Ryley (Gavin) Lawson, Ari Smarr, Roman Smarr and Mya Smarr. Also surviving is her former daughter-in-law Holly (Jeremy) Reed and their son Hayden, and sisters Barbara (Rocky) Lada, Judy “Jude” Kelley, Helen Curkendall and Vera Bennett. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by siblings Margaret “Peg” Bennett, Kenneth “Buck” Smarr, Gary Smarr and Lynda Fornash, and brother-in-law Jim Kelley.

Funeral services will be held at 4 pm, Sunday February 1st at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with son, Michael Smarr and family friend Riley Morris officiating. The family will greet friends from 2 pm until the hour of service. Messages of sympathy may be sent at lankfordfh.com.

Michael’s family extends a special “thank you” to all the family, friends and neighbors for all the help and care that was given to Michael.
