Nellie “Fay” Wittekind

Nellie “Fay” Wittekind, 93, of Marietta, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at Marietta Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.  She was born on September 30, 1918, in Germantown, a daughter of Manuel and Icie Miller Hendershot.

Fay was a graduate of Lower Salem High School and was a homemaker.  She loved to bowl and belonged to a league, she was a gardener, loved animals especially birds,  quilting and embroidery.  She was a member of VFW Auxiliary and Eagles Auxiliary.  Fay loved her grandchildren.

On June 4, 1937, she married William R. Wittekind and they were married for 73 years before he passed away on August 1, 2010.

She is survived by 1 son, Delmar (Nancy) Wittekind of Marietta, grandchildren:  Debra (Mike) Leffew of Salisbury, NC, Julia (Boyd) Evans of Marietta, Cara (Dean) Canter of Marietta, Jacqueline (Steve) Carpenter of Pottstown, PA, Delmar (Leslie) Wittekind, II of Marietta, Tony (Stephanie) Wittekind of Lowell and 5 great granddaughters, 10 great grandsons, 2 great, great granddaughters and 7 great, great grandsons.  She is also survived by her sister, Marjorie Reed and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 2 sisters, Jessie Kehl and Goldie Myers, brother Brady Hendershot and granddaughter Billie Jo Wittekind.

Funeral services will be held on Friday (Jan. 27) at 2:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Gale Lauderman officiating.  Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.  Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 4:00 pm on Thursday evening.
