Noel A. Wetz

Portrait of Noel A. Wetz

Noel A. Wetz of Lowell, Ohio, passed away on July 18, 2024. He was born on December 22, 1943, in Marietta, Ohio, to Walter E. and Laura B. Schletzer Wetz.

Noel graduated from Fort Frye High School in 1961. He served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1968, reaching a rank of Staff Sergeant. He was stationed in Germany, Taiwan and England. After leaving the service, Noel worked as an operator at Ohio Power’s Muskingum River Plant in Beverly, Ohio, for nearly 30 years. He then worked as a courier for Marietta Memorial Hospital for 19 years before retiring.

Noel was deeply engaged in his community. He invested a lot of time in coaching or co- coaching his kid’s baseball and basketball teams in Lowell and Marietta. He served on the governing council at St. John’s Evangelical Church in Lowell and served on the board that oversaw the Lowell Oktoberfest for several years. He was a long-time member of the Lowell American Legion Post 750 and the Lowell Masonic Lodge #436.

Noel was a peacemaker at heart – he was willing to swallow his pride and humbly apologize if it meant bringing an end to divisiveness and hurt between him and others.
He was also a generous person. Just one of many examples – it is well remembered by his family when he loaned his truck for an extended period to a veteran in the community who needed transportation.

Noel is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ute “Gitti” Wetz, and sons Steve (Brenda) of Marietta, Ohio, and Mike (Jennifer) of Corpus Christi, Texas. He was a loving grandfather to Steve Jr. (Haley) of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Mackenzie of Marietta, Ohio, and Caroline and Jacob of Corpus Christi, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to thank Luke Daniel and Ashley Scarberry of Heartland Hospice for the care and assistance that they provided to us and Noel over the past 6 months.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23rd, at the McClure- Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home, 314 4th St, Marietta, OH. Donations in Noel’s memory may be made to: Lowell Baseball and Softball League, 7125 Muskingum River Road, Lowell, OH 45744. Messages of Sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
