Opal Virgie Slider

Opal Virgie Slider, 94, of Marietta died at 12:45 pm on Sunday, November 29, 2009, at The Marietta Care and Rehab Center.

She was born on January 2, 1915, in Washington County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Charles Henry and Ona Ethel Casto McBride.  She was a member of the Marietta Bible Center Church, O’Neill Senior Center and the Marietta Center Red Hat Society.  She was named resident for the month of July 2005, at the Center. Opal retired from B. F. Goodrich after 25 years working in the cafeteria.  Opal was an excellent cook, enjoyed playing Bingo and making crafts.

Opal is survived by one granddaughter, Pamela (Max) Lassiter and 3 great grandchildren:  Dwayne and Megan Wilson and Toni Lassiter; 2 step great grandchildren, James and Heather Lassiter, 2 sisters:  Velma Worstell and Helen Lee and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Reuben Slider, daughter Shirley Farley, son Reuben Eugene and son-in-law Roger Farley, 3 sisters Hazel Simms, Thelma Becker and Jessie Rose McBride; 2 brothers, Robert McBride and Pearl Martin.

Funeral services will be held on Friday (December 4th) at 10:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial in Valley Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday after 2:00.
