Phillip “Chip” Dewey Erb
Phillip “Chip” Dewey Erb, 68, of Cleveland passed away June 12, 2017 at Fairview Hospital in Cleveland.
Chip was born July 17, 1948 the son of Reuben Dewey and Lettie Marie (Jones) Erb. On June 28, 1974 he married Joni Yarbrough who proceeded him in death. Chip and Joni owned and operated the “Shim Sham” Bar in Cleveland and he was also a union painter for many years. He also worked as a maintenance manager for the Shooters Restaurant where he met many Browns and Cavaliers players. Following the death of his wife Chip raised gardens and setup markets around Cleveland where he would sell his “Pickle Man” Pickles.
Surviving is his sisters and brothers: Shirley Williams, Edith Buck, Ruby Shafer, Florence (Bruce) Wriston, Donna Riley, Mary Murphy, Marilyn Leach, Larry Erb, Gerald Erb, and Randy Gifford. Also surviving is Chip’s best friends and family Sam and Delores Meeks and Darrell and Crystal Bonnell as well as 27 nieces and nephews and many great and great great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Chip was proceeded in death by his big brother and best friend Reuben Erb, infant brother Norman Erb, sister Helen (Walt) Rohrbach and brothers-in-laws Jim Buck and Jim Williams.
Graveside services will be held 11 am Friday, June 16th at Sitka Cemetery with Carol Smith Williams officiating. Visitation will be held at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home from 4-8 on Thursday. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
