Richard “Dick” E. Gill
Richard “Dick” E. Gill, 86, of Marietta passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, at Arbors of Marietta after a life full of fun, love, and mischief. At the end, he was surrounded by his granddaughters and the wonderful staff of both Arbors and the Washington County Home.
Dick was born on October 16, 1939, to Eston H. and Elsie Lucille Gill in Weirton, WV. He married the love of his life, Joyce Ann Cunningham, in 1961, and had two sons, Rick and Herb Gill. They were married for 59 ½ years.
He was a retired truck driver and hobby farmer. He loved working on his vehicles, NASCAR, fishing, raising chickens, and gardening. His final years were spent with his granddaughter Shelby by his side; she gave him every ounce of love she had. Her family appreciates her dedication more than she will ever know. Because of her, he knew love and light in his last years.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, his parents, a brother, and his son Herbert. His beloved companions Skeeter and Cocoa will also be waiting to greet him.
Surviving Dick is his oldest son Rick Gill of Marietta; eight grandchildren including: Bryar (Andrew) Gill of North Carolina; Amber (Jason) Lovelace of Florida; Cheyenne (Jacob) Reed of Charleston, WV; Shelby (Mitchell) Copen of Charleston, WV; Libby Thompson of Ripley, WV; and Travis Thompson of Marietta. He had 11 great-grandchildren. Dick is survived by one fur child, a black lab named Cindy, who resides with Shelby and Mitch in Charleston.
The family would like to thank the Washington County Home, Marietta Memorial Hospital, and Arbors of Marietta for caring for Dick in his last days.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00pm on Thursday (May 21) at McClure Schafer Lankford Funeral Home with visitation before the service from 2:00 until 4:00. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
