Richard (Dick) Emerson Tuttle

Richard Emerson Tuttle (Dick), beloved great grandfather, GranGran, father, husband, brother and son passed on to greater life on February 7, 2016 attended by his children.  Born in Ashland New York, Dick attended Syracuse University on an academic scholarship and served in the United States Army.  He met and married the love of his life, Roberta in 1964 while in the Army.  After completing his service in the Army, Dick returned to his job as a chemical engineer at Union Carbide Corporation.  He had a very successful career with Union Carbide through his retirement in 1992. Dick taught chemistry part time at Washington State Community College and indulged in his passion for wood working, evidenced by the furniture and pieces in the homes of nearly everyone who knew and loved him.  

 
In 1987 Dick and Roberta moved their family from Connecticut to Marietta Ohio and became members of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church where he was a very active member of the church.  Dick’s faith and belief in helping others was evident in his quiet work for his church and the many charities he supported including the Diocese of Southern Ohio, Episcopal Relief and Development, the Caring Connection and St. Luke’s Feed the Hungry Program.
 
In addition to his parents Dick is preceded in death by his beloved wife Roberta, his brothers Donald, Lester, and Howard and his sisters Ruth and Charlotte.  He is survived by his sisters Virginia Shaw and Diane Miller, children Richard and Katie Tuttle, Phyllis and Torry Guardino, Victoria and Mitch Kindig, Robert and Jennifer Tuttle and Addrianne and Cory Conway, 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  
 
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in memory of Richard Tuttle, 320 Second Street, Marietta, OH, 45750.  
 
The family will be present to meet friends during calling hours at McClure Schafer Lankford Funeral Home, 314 Fourth Street, Marietta, Ohio, 45750 on Friday, February 12th  from 4:00 – 8:00 pm. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Saturday, February 13, 2016 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at 12:00 pm.  Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
