Richard E. Reed, 99, of Marietta passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

He was born at Marietta, a son of the late Frank M. and Bettie Reed. He was a graduate of Marietta High School and was retired from Union Carbide Power Station in 1981 after 29½ years of service. He was a veteran of World War II having served as a Gunner Signalman with the Navy Armed Guards. He was a life member of the VFW Post 5108, American Legion Post 64 and 40 et 8. He was Past Master of Harmar Lodge 390 and a member of American Union Chapter 1, Royal Arch Masons.

On September 14, 1946, he married his wife of 77 years, Lois Slater Reed, who survives with two sons, James Richard Reed (wife Rosemary) of Lowell and Donald Dean Reed (wife Melanie) of Marietta; 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one step great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his son William Reed and grandson Josh Reed, brother William A. Reed of Marietta and sisters Ruth F. Slater of Devola and Patsy J. Heslop of Whipple.

Funeral service with Masonic Rites will be held at 7:30 pm Sunday (Jan14) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home. Family will greet friends from 5 until 7:30.
