Robert G. Annasenz

Robert G. “Bob” Annasenz, 100, of Glenwood, Marietta, passed away at his home on Sunday, December 6, 2009.

He was born on April 25, 1909, in Morton, Illinois, a son of the late George C. and Caroline Entenman Annasenz.  Coach Annasenz was a veteran of the Army Air Corps during World War II.  He was a graduate of Bradley University and started teaching in 1936 in Tremont, Illinois, moving to Marietta in October of 1937.  He taught Industrial Arts at Marietta High School and coached track and cross-country for 38 years.  He continued to coach after his retirement.  Coach Annasenz, known as “Father of Marietta Track”, received many honors including membership in Ohio Track Coach Hall of Fame, Ohio Cross Country Hall of Fame, Mid Ohio Valley Hall of Fame, Bradley University Athletic Hall of Fame and the all weather track at Don Drumm Field named in his honor.  He had the pleasure of coaching many fine athletes at Marietta High School.  He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 64.  His hobbies included woodworking, watching sports and traveling.

On December 24, 1938, he married Helen Willard who survives with 4 nieces and 1 nephew:  Patty Miller of Ft. Wayne, IN, Louis Polito of Kimberly City, MO, Shirley Metz of Morton, IL, Barbara Siron of Morton, IL and Linda Beecham of Tremont, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday (December 10th) at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church with Reverend Steven M. Mahaffey officiating.  Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery with full military rites.  Friends may call after 2:00 pm on Wednesday at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with family present in the evening from 5 until 7 and at the church one hour before the service.
