Robert Harper “Bob” Scott
Robert Harper “Bob” Scott, 98, of Marietta passed away at 5:25 am on Tuesday, January 18, 2011.
Born on September 30, 1912, a son of Wallace McCoy and Hattie Davis Scott, Bob was a graduate of Marietta High School, Class of 1930, and The Ohio State University in 1938 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. He was a registered Architect and Structural Engineer in Ohio and West Virginia and actively practiced in Columbus and Marietta for 60 years, mostly doing public buildings. Bob served on Ohio Board of Building Appeals for 8 years.
He returned to Marietta in 1950 and built his home in Devola where he was active in zoning and serving as inspector for many years. In 1967 he purchased a farm on Cambridge Road and built his present home there. He was first president and actively pursued establishment of Highland Ridge Water Association. He was a licensed pilot and owned his own plane for 14 years. Following retirement in 1988 he began active pursuit of his favorite medium of watercolor painting, painting mostly buildings and pastoral subjects.
Bob was a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church and Home Builders Class, was a member of Harmar Masonic Lodge and Scioto Consistory and previously a noble of Alladin Shrine.
In 1940 he married Mary Jane Madden who survives with 1 son and 3 daughters: Richard Hayward (Lucy) Scott of Waverly, WV, Jill M. (Gosta) Poldemann, Rebecca Jane Scott of Marietta, Sheila Chapman (Mark) Zeune of Pataskala; grandchildren: Robert Hamilton Scott, Kristin Poldemann (Wayne) Bartholomew and Erik Poldemann, Cale H. and Meagan Jane Zeune. Also surviving is his sister, Charlotte Elliott of Devola and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Ashlee Jane Scott and brother Howard McCoy Scott.
