Robert Lee Warren
Robert Lee Warren, retired USDA Soil Scientist, went home to meet his Lord and Savior on July 7, 2013, at Highland Oaks Health Center in McConnellsville where he had lived about 3 years and had been taken care of very well and loved by the staff. In less than 3 weeks, he would have been 102 years old.
Born July 26, 1911 at Delaware, Ohio to the late Mary Inez and Lee C. Warren; Robert was raised on a farm and was a 1929 graduate of Delaware High School and a 1934 graduate of Ohio State University, where he majored in agriculture education. Robert was a Smith-Hughes instructor at Howard, Bartlett, Sharon Center and Vincent, before enlisting in the US Army where he served for 4 years. After his discharge he accepted a position with USDA-SCS as a soil scientist in Denison, IA, where he remained until his retirement. After his retirement he returned to Marietta. Robert was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Barlett Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite and Abu Bekr Shrine of Sioux City, IA and the Belpre Chapter 865 – NARFE. He was also a member of the Norwood United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post 64. He was a gentle giant of over 6’ 6” and wore a size 16 shoe. He was loved by all.
In later years he had a close relationship with his nephew Phil (Helen) Roberts who helped him a lot. He also had other good friends, Wade and Illa Becker near Marietta, granddaughter: MeLinda Warren and friends Vandassa and Willie Golden all of Tallahassee, FL.; grandsons: Libert Warren and Robert Lee Warren; great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.
In 1941 he married Pauline Adams Cross who preceded him in death. Also preceding him death was their children Linda Kay and Libert Cross, a sister Betty (Robert) Radnor and 3 brothers, Herbet, Paul and Stanley.
Memorial services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, July 13th at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home. Friends may call from 11:30 am until the hour of services on Saturday. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.lankfordfh.com.
