Ruth Beryl Poulton Salisbury

Ruth Beryl Poulton Salisbury, 96, formally of Marietta, passed away October 4, 2011 in Gallipolis.

Ruth was born in low Gap, Ohio Washington Township, Monroe County on January' 11, 1915, the daughter of Oscar Poulton and Ada Foraker Poulton. She moved to Rinard’s Mills November l9l8 and her parents and Uncle Fred and Aunt Pearl Poulton owned and operated a country store. She had two sisters Marjorie and Ruby plus her uncle Fred Poulton's family consisted of three sons and a daughter. The fathers were brothers and the mothers were sisters, which made for one big happy family. As the children grew older, they each worked and helped run Poulton Brothers General Store. Ruth graduated from Ludlow High School in 1932.

She married Victor Salisbury June 13,1936 and his teaching career sent them to Graysville, Woodsfield and Marietta. She worked 22 years at the Monroe County Beacon. After retiring she and her husband moved to Marietta in July 1977. Victor passed away November 15, 1991. Ruth was a member of the Marietta Bible Center Church and the Woodsfield Chapter 2680 Eastern Star and had received her 65th year pin. She was an accomplished pianist and loved to play accompanying the church choirs, solos and school operettas. She loved to write letters and cards and keep in touch with relatives and friends who were all a big part of her daily living.

In February 2004, she fell in her home and was hospitalized 4 days and in a nursing home for 2 weeks. Once dismissed she decided she could no longer stay alone and she moved in with her sister Ruby and her husband Roy for two years, and then with her nephew Greg and his wife and Donna for the last 5 years all of Gallipolis.

Surviving is her sister Ruby (Roy) Briggs, sister-in-law Mary Salisbury, a niece Madelyn Heslop, 5 nephews: Greg Briggs, Terry Briggs, Doug Briggs, Rick Ullum and Kim Ullum plus several great nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Ruth was preceded in death by sisters Marjorie (Ronald) Ullum and Elsie (Joe) Bachman and her brother-in-law Jack Salisbury.

Funeral services will be held 11 am Friday October 7th at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial following in Woodlawn Cemetery in Woodsfield.  Friends may call at the funeral home beginning 2 pm Thursday.
