Ruth Endlar Cyphers
Ruth (Endlar) Cyphers, a long-time resident of Rockaway Township, New Jersey, and more recently of the community at Glenwood in Marietta, OH, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 14,2011 at Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta, OH. She was 91.
The daughter of Israel Endlar and Anna McCaw Endlar, she was born in Haverhill, MA on August 15, l9l9 and raised in Albany, NY. She graduated business school and served in the US Marines Corps during WWII, stationed in Arlington, VA. She married Hugh Edward Cyphers in October 1945. They settled in New Jersey and raised five children.
Ruth was an accomplished legal secretary and worked over the years for many attorneys in the Morris County, NJ, area. She also worked for the Salvation Army. She was an avid letter writer and champion speller, winning contests well into her 80s. She could play the piano by ear, a little know fact, and is remembered by her children and grandchildren as a ready dispenser of cinnamon toast and button candy.
She is preceded in death by her patents, her only sister (Charlotte Isabelle Endlar), her husband and her two sons (Paul Albert Cyphers and John Edward Cyphers).
She is survived by three daughters: Charlotte Cyphers of Wayne, NJ; Marilyn (Walter) Yocum of Marietta OH, and Kathryn (Leo) Tully of Virginia Beach, VA; nine grandchildren: Charles Quinn of Sleepy Hollow, NY, Elizabeth Quinn Kachur of Wayne, NJ, Daniel James Rodriguez; Paul John Cyphers and Heidi Amanda Cyphers of Denville, NJ; April Yocum Beason of Winston-Salem, NC, Walter Harrison Yocum of Street, MD, Susan Beth Yocum of Atlanta GA, Glen Edison Cyphers of Pottstown, PA, and seven great-grandchildren, Michael Leo Kachur and Brian Andrew Kachur, Connor Angus Quinn, Tyler David Beason, Caleb Walter Yocum, Morgaine Ruth Katura Cyphers and Elias Joseph Michael Cyphers.
