Steven “Steve” W. Lynch
Steven “Steve” W. Lynch, 70, of Marietta passed away on Wednesday morning, June 15, 2011, at 4:30 am at his home.
He was born on December 11, 1940, in Martin’s Ferry, Ohio, a son of Clarence E. and Jennie Bilan Lynch. Steve was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving 6 years. He was retired from the Washington County Sheriff’s Department retiring in 1999 after 30 years of service. Steve was the first D.A.R.E. officer for the county and implemented the program in many of the county schools. He enjoyed appraising coin and sports memorabilia, attending auctions and hunting.
Steven is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Betty Jean Rowe Lynch whom he married on July 18, 1970, their daughter Teresa and her husband Greg Lang and grand daughter Emily Dey of Maderia, OH, his “Generic Son” Scott Mankins of Marietta, his “Partner in Crime” Jim Williamson and his wife Janice of Pennsboro, WV, special friends Neil and Sandy Cassidy of Barlow, sister-in-law Darlene Lynch of Columbia, SC, and his brother Clarence of Friendly, WV, and a niece and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, John and Larry.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday (June 18) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Reverend Terry Boyce officiating. Burial will follow in Mole Hill Cemetery in Mountain, WV. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday afternoon beginning at 2:00 with family present from 2-4 & 6-8.
