Terrence M. Morris

Terrence M. Morris, 61, of Fifth Street, passed away at his home on Monday evening, April 27, 2009, after losing his battle to pancreatic cancer.

He was born in Marietta on December 19, 1947, the only child of Carl Leslie and Claire Mendenhall Morris.  He was Vice-President of Alliance Industries.  Terry graduated from Marietta High School with the class of 1965 and graduated in 1969 from Marietta College where he earned a degree in Physics.  He then went on to earn a PhD in Electrical Engineering from The California Institute of Technology and graduated from Harvard Business School in 1977.  He was very actively involved in crew and was on the first Marietta High School crew team.  While at Marietta College he was proud to be on 3 Dad Vail winning Varsity 8 boats. These achievements lead to his induction into the Marietta College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001. He was a strong supporter of Marietta College and was a member of Marietta College Trustees for several years.  At MC he taught several classes as an adjunct professor and coached women’s crew for a short time and led the women’s varsity 4 to a Dad Vail championship. Apart from his accomplishments, Terry was an avid reader who genuinely loved learning.  He had a vast curiosity for the world and was constantly pursuing to understand and appreciate it and the people in it.  He truly loved attending his 4 children’s sporting events and doing projects with them.

On December 31, 1989, he married Melissa Joseph who survives with 2 sons and 2 daughters:  Terrence Morris, Jr., Matthew Morris, Hannah Morris and Emma Morris all at home.

A gathering will be held in remembrance of Terry on Tuesday, May 5th from 6:30 pm at The Galley Banquet Room, 203 Second Street.  McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.  On line condolences may be shared at:  www.mslfuneralhome.com.
