Thomas Mack Martin

Thomas Mack Martin, 93, of Marietta passed away at 4:48 pm, Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at his home.
Tom was born in Wheeling, WV, on January 28, 1927, the youngest of three sons (Albert Frank and Glenn Russell) born to Clyde Ray and Nancy (Nannie) Jane Morris Martin. A year and a half later, the family moved to Marietta.
He followed his two brothers into the military and Tom joined the Navy as a medic and served at the naval hospital in the State of Washington. Following Tom’s discharge, he returned to Marietta and returned to the Boy Scouts and became a Scout Master and was on the Scout Master’s Roundtable.
He went to work for BF Goodrich and later worked for Marietta Paint and Color Company for 27 years and then for Crescent Supply until his retirement.
In 1950, he married Jo Kaneff and they lived their entire life in Norwood where he was known as the “Mayor of Wells Street.” Tom and Jo were quite active in the First Baptist Church, Singles and Doubles Class and also sang in the church choir. Three daughters were born to them: Marsha Fox, Myla (Jerry) Mitchem and Marian (Guy) Davis all of Marietta; eight grandchildren: Jamie Fox of Thailand, who was raised by her grandparents, Scott Mitchem of Cleveland, Amanda (Bryan) Topnick of Pittsburgh, Benson Mack (Jyl) Davis of Lebanon, Rachel Davis of Marietta, Jered (Lacey) Mitchem of Little Hocking, Jon (Brianna) Mitchem of Marietta, Lexi Blake of Marietta; 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and one nephew, sister-in-law Jan (Dennis) Randolph, and he was blessed with a loving niece Louise (Ron) Holmes who was always there for him.
The love of his family, his belief in God and his after-retirement hobby – pride and passion of wood crafting—were the driving aspects of his life. Many in the community turned to Tom to give renewed luster to their wood treasures.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jo, his daughter, Marsha and his brothers, Frank and Glenn.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday (June 21) at 1:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home. Family will greet friends on Saturday at the funeral home from 1 until 5. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marietta Community Foundation, 100 Putnam Street, Marietta, OH 45750.
Special appreciation is extended to Marietta Hospice, Dr. Lloyd Dennis and to Saundra Easton and Barb Poling for their loving care of both Jo and Tom.
